Locked Caves — In-Depth Analysis
The Locked Caves are one of the main locations in 99 Nights in the Forest. Each cave contains one of the four missing children, and the entrance is crowded with enemies guarding the gate. To open it you must kill every guardian; the last one to fall drops a colored key. Inside there is a chest and a children's room.
The wiki lists four difficulty levels. Level 1 has 5 Wolves, a Red key, the Dino Kid, a prize of Common, Good, Iron, Gold (very low chance) or Ruby (very low chance) chest, and needs Campfire level 2-3. Level 2 has 4 Alpha Wolves, a Blue key, the Kraken Kid, a Good, Iron, Legendary, Gold or Ruby chest, and needs level 3-5. Level 3 has 2 Bears, a Yellow key, the Squid Kid, a Legendary, Gold or Ruby chest, and needs level 4-5. Level 4 has 6 Bears, a Grey key, the Koala Kid, a Gold or Ruby chest, and needs level 6.
A Ruby Chest is rare here and is only possible in the Koala Kid's cave, where it is almost guaranteed, or in the Squid Kid's cave, with a slight chance. The number on the blocks inside the cave shows which child it is.
The key can sometimes misbehave. If you stored it in the sack and dropped it, it may not unlock the gate and may drop inside the cave instead. In that case, try dropping items through the cave to push the key forward, or dance-clip inside and ignore the key until you leave. If the final guard dies right next to the lock, the key can also spawn on the lock and unlock it, or simply fall inside.
