Bear — In-Depth Analysis
The Bear is one of the forest's genuine heavyweights, and the numbers prove it: 350 HP and 40 damage make it a top-tier melee threat that can flatten an unprepared survivor in two or three swings. Its walkspeed of 28 means it is not slow either, so you cannot simply jog away once it aggros. You will meet it at the Cultist Hunter Camp and in Locked Caves, which is no accident — it functions as a guardian over high-value areas.
This is a fight to bring friends and good gear to. Stack ranged damage if you can, kite it between obstacles, and never let it corner you, because at 40 per hit a single mistake is often fatal. The reward justifies the risk: it drops a feast of Morsel (6) and 3-4 Steak, a possible Bear Pelt for crafting (including a Bear Rug), and — most importantly — a guaranteed Yellow Key and Grey Key, which gate progression through locked content.
Taming is expensive at Steak x5, Pumpkin x5, and Salmon x5, but a tamed Bear becomes a devastating bodyguard with that same 350 HP and 40 damage working for you.
