Scanner guide
The Scanner is a toggleable flip-phone device with a dark green screen, a red arrow button and a green one, and it is the reward for climbing to the top of The Stairwell. Cobbler sells it there for 500 Gold, and the wiki says that reaching him takes roughly 100 flights of stairs. Switching it on makes it pulse every two to three seconds, marking Keys, Books, Levers, Fire Escapes and similar progression objects with a star symbol, even through walls or inside drawers. Major items are not highlighted.
Battery and modules
The Scanner has four battery bars, about five minutes in total, and each Battery restores two of them. One module can be fitted at a time:
- Translator (violet): turns Cobbler's language into readable text.
- Flashlight (grey): a beam as bright as the Bulklight.
- Threat Detector (red): highlights entities such as Dupe, Figure and Stems.
- Egg (white): a catch-the-eggs minigame, obtained by trading any module to Louie.
Old and new
The earlier NVCS-3000 had unlimited battery and night vision. The Access Granted update rebuilt the item with a battery and a slightly weaker design.
