Tophat

The Tophat is an old battered hat with a second use besides scrap. It turns up with low chance in lockers or on the ground in The Stairwell, and it is a Depot item that sells for 5 scrap metal, the highest yield of the Stairwell items listed. The stack limit is 1, and the floor's page calls the same object a Damaged Hat.

Putting it on Creak

Instead of scrapping it, the player can put the Tophat on Creak, which earns the badge Emancipation Customization: Place a peculiar hat on a distinguished individual, whose flavor text reads Four doors and seven knobs ago. The wiki ties this to history: Creak's original design was named Abraham and came with a hat, and the badge references Abraham Lincoln, famous for a top hat.

The trade-off

A hat that sells for 5 scrap is worth 50 Gold at Cobbler's rate of 10 per piece. That is two and a half times a Gasoline Tank or Large Screw, and 5 scrap is a fifth of a Peach Cobbler. Giving it to Creak means passing up that money for a badge.
