The Depths Key guide

The Depths Key is not a fish in the usual sense. The wiki describes it as the key that leads to the gates of the Depths, and the data lists it as an Exotic catch from Vertigo on the First Sea. You can only get it during the day, and the data names no bait, weather or season.

As an item it carries the numbers of a good catch. It averages 80 kg, ranging from 30.9 kg to 207.5 kg, and sells at C$8 per kg for about C$640. That is 371 of the 742 documented fish for average value, a bit above the middle, and its maximum weight ranks 246 of 663. Base XP is 350, which is a lot more than similarly priced fish. The numbers say the value is in what it opens rather than in the sale.

Vertigo also sells the Nocturnal Rod and the Aurora Rod, so you can upgrade your gear in the same place where you are fishing for the key. That makes the zone a convenient base for anyone aiming at the Depths.

Verdict: if you plan to enter the Depths, treat this as a priority daytime catch. Selling it for C$640 is possible, but the lore description suggests you may want to hold on to it first.
