Twice the Chicken, and that is the whole story
At $2/s the Dog doubles the Chicken and still ranks 197th of 198 for income across the game. Its egg takes 15 seconds instead of 10, which is a fair trade for the extra dollar, and it hatches with +460 Speed and $200 in cash.
The Speed reward is what makes the Dog useful early. A Dog and a Chicken together give 880 Speed, so one more Forest hatch of any kind clears the 900 needed for Lake. A pair of Dogs alone gets you to 920.
A heavy base weight changes how sizes read
