Small income, oversized Speed
The Frog is the cheapest pet in Lake at $3/s, the third Common in the game and 196th of 198 for income. What makes it interesting is the reward: its 15-second egg pays +2k Speed and $300. That is twice the Speed of a Brr Brr Patapim egg, from a pet that earns $3/s against Patapim's $1.8K/s.
Lake is the first zone that needs Speed to enter (900), and its guardian is the Swan. Once you are in, every egg pays thousands of Speed, which is how you build toward the 10K that Desert asks for.
Frog eggs as a Speed engine
Dividing reward by grow time gives a rough idea of how efficient each Lake egg is for Speed:
- Frog: 2,000 Speed over 15s, about 133 per second of growing
- Duckling: 2,200 Speed over 20s, about 110 per second
The Frog is the most Speed-efficient egg in the biome on that measure. Five Frog eggs add up to exactly 10,000 Speed, the Desert requirement, before counting treadmills or trails.
Mutations do little here
Using the wiki's formula as an estimate, a Golden Frog makes about $7.5/s and a Rainbow one about $10.5/s. Its base weight is just 3 kg, so a 300 kg Frog would already be 100 times base and reach about $51.3/s. Rainbow on top of that is about $180/s, roughly the income of a plain Fox.
Hatch Frogs for Speed, not for money, and replace them as soon as better Lake eggs are growing.
