Every run of Steal an Egg starts with the Chicken. It sits at the very bottom of the income table, 198th of 198 pets at $1/s, and its egg is the quickest in the Forest at just 10 seconds. The wiki also lists the Chicken as the Forest's guardian, so the first nest you raid is watched by its own adult.
What the Chicken Egg actually gives you
The value here is the hatch reward, not the income. Each Chicken Egg pays +420 Speed and $100. The next zone, Lake, asks for 900 Speed, so the numbers line up neatly:
- Chicken (+420) plus a Dog (+460) comes to 880 Speed, just 20 short.
- Any third Forest egg, even another Chicken, pushes you past 900.
Because the egg finishes in 10 seconds, it is the fastest way to bank those first Speed points while you wait for longer eggs.
Can mutations save it?
Not really. Using the formula the wiki documents, a Golden Chicken would make about $2.5/s and a Rainbow one about $3.5/s. A Chicken at 100 times its 8 kg base weight would reach roughly $17.1/s, and stacking Rainbow on that size lands near $59.9/s. Even that best case is a third of what a plain Fox earns ($180/s) in the same biome.
Where it fits
Treat the Chicken as a stepping stone. Hatch a few for the Speed, then free the pen slot for the Bird, the Owl or anything higher. It is the lowest of the five Common pets in the game, so there is no hidden upside in keeping it long term.
