Compared with the Raccoon's identical 50-second wait, the Turtle earns a third more and pays more than four times the Speed. That makes it the clearest upgrade path for anyone who has just reached Lake with a Forest Rare in the pen.
Reaching Desert with Turtles
Desert asks for 10K Speed. Four Turtle eggs give 10,800 on their own. If you are short on time, a mix of two Turtles and two Catfish (10,400) gets there with shorter eggs on half of the hatches.
The Turtle is also a reasonable bridge pet on the income side. The next Rare up the chain is the Desert's Camel at $75/s, only 25% more, so a Turtle does not lose much value when you first move on.
