Boss Tokens come from one place: beating the Overlord inside the Rift, which opens every 30 minutes. You spend them in the Boss Shop. Every boss you beat also earns Boss Mastery Points, and those unlock pets on their own track.
There are two bosses that feed Boss Mastery: the Rift Overlord and Dr. Scramble in his Mecha. This page covers both, with every number our data documents: shop items, mastery rewards, the 100-tier milestone and the rare secret drop.
The two boss fights at a glance
Both bosses repeat on a timer, so you get a new chance to earn rewards every half hour.

How to get Boss Tokens
The Rift is the only documented source of Boss Tokens. Here's the loop:
- 1Wait for the Rift. One opens somewhere on the map every 30 minutes.
- 2Step inside. The Overlord is waiting for you.
- 3Fight until it faints. The Overlord faints from time to time during the fight.
- 4Hit its hand with your bat. While it's down, each hit on the hand does 100 damage, according to the wiki.
- 5Collect your Boss Tokens. You get a batch after each Rift fight you complete.
The wiki doesn't publish how many tokens one fight gives, and it doesn't list exact spawn times either. "Every 30 minutes" is the interval, so stay in the game and watch for the Rift to open.
One small naming note. The Rift page calls the currency Boss Tokens everywhere except one tip, where it says "Boss Shards". Both mean the batch you get after a Rift fight.
What the Boss Shop sells
The Boss Shop takes Boss Tokens. Our sources list four kinds of items:

Token prices for each item are not documented yet, so we don't list them.
How to use the Mutation Shard
The Update 3 notes say the Boss Shop gives a chance to apply the new Fractured mutation to your placed eggs. Fractured is worth x2.75 in our mutations table.
- 1Buy a Mutation Shard in the Boss Shop.
- 2Walk up to an egg sitting in your pen. It can still be growing.
- 3Interact with the egg to use the shard.
- 4The shard has a 10% chance to apply the mutation.
Mutations multiply base income, following the formula the wiki documents: Final Income = Base Income × Color Multiplier × Size Multiplier. So x2.75 on a high-income egg adds far more cash than x2.75 on a cheap one. Try the numbers in our income calculator.
Boss Mastery Points
Every Overlord you defeat earns Boss Mastery Points. The Rift's Mastery track unlocks "increasingly valuable rewards", and the Update 3 notes name one type: eggs that come with the Fractured mutation already applied.
The wiki doesn't list the exact tiers of the Rift Mastery track yet. The track that is fully documented is Dr. Scramble's, below.
Dr. Scramble: the Mecha boss
Every 30 minutes, Dr. Scramble returns in his Mecha and takes over the map. Each time you defeat him, you earn Samples and your Boss Mastery Points go up by 1. More details are on the Dr. Scramble's Laboratory page.

How long 100 points takes
Since each win gives 1 point, you need 100 wins to reach Pink Dragon Experiment #010. With one fight every 30 minutes, that's at least 50 hours of boss spawns if you never miss one. That's simple math from the wiki's numbers, not a timer from the game.
The good part is that the first reward comes fast: 10 wins, or about 5 hours of spawns, gets you Eye Bat #021.
The secret boss drop
The Update 6 notes mention a "super rare" chance to get the newest Divine when you beat Dr. Scramble. That pet is Mecha Scrambler, a Divine at $7.5B/s. Our data lists its chance as 0.5% per boss kill.
The 100-tier Boss Milestone and its Eternal
Update 6 also added a 100-tier Boss Milestone track for Dr. Scramble. Reaching Tier 100 unlocks an OP Eternal reward pet.
The wiki doesn't name that Eternal on the milestone page. What our data does show is that the 100-point Boss Mastery reward, Pink Dragon Experiment #010, is an Eternal at $2.5B/s. It's very likely the same reward, but the wiki hasn't confirmed it, so we won't claim it.
Samples: what to spend them on
Samples come from Dr. Scramble's fights and drones. The wiki lists this Experiment Shop from the first Dr. Scramble event (Update 5). Prices may have changed since, so check in game:

Experiment #001 is a Secret at $285M/s and takes 3h 30m to grow, and the wiki calls it an event-limited egg. Nibbles #013 is a Cosmic at $185K/s with a 15-minute grow. The Scrambled mutation is worth x2.75, the same as Fractured.
The Laboratory
Dr. Scramble's Laboratory replaced the Rift Trade-In Machine. You trade eggs directly for its banners (Biohazard, Experimental and Unstable DNA), and hitting pity now guarantees the top reward. Pity carries over even if you leave the game or the banner rotates.
Rift pets you can get
The Rift page groups every pet obtainable through the Rift, "from every banner and boss reward combined". The wiki doesn't separate which ones come from the boss and which from the banners. Here are the strongest of each banner by income:

The banners rotate roughly every 3 hours. The Rift Event page lists which biome eggs each banner draws from.
A simple plan
- Join every Rift and every Dr. Scramble fight you can. Both give Mastery progress, and the first Dr. Scramble reward needs only 10 wins.
- Save Boss Tokens for the boost you need right now, like a Speed boost when you're close to the next biome.
- Use Mutation Shards on your best egg. The x2.75 multiplies base income, so it pays most on the egg that already earns the most.
- Turn spare eggs into Lab pulls. You don't need to hatch them first.
