Sardine guide
Sardine is the cheap, schooling staple of The Ocean: a Common fish that takes Any bait, and shows up on Clear days in Spring or Summer, during the day. The in-game text describes small schooling fish with high oil content, silver scales and long tiny bodies.
Because it accepts any bait, it is one of the easiest fish to hit by accident. It weighs up to 0.7 kg, averaging 0.2 kg, and sells at C$110 per kg, which is about C$22 per average catch. It gives 20 base XP. Its average value ranks 717th of the 742 documented fish, and its maximum weight is 640th of 663, so it is firmly in the bottom group.
The crowd around it is big: Mackerel, Mussel, Mullet, Porgy, Sand Dollar and Sea Bass share its Common tier and its zone. In practice that means a Common roll in The Ocean could be any of seven fish, and Sardine is simply one of the cheaper ones.
What to do with that: sell Sardines for the small coin and do not spend effort chasing them. With 20 XP and C$22, they make no difference in the long run. If you want to progress, move to a zone with a higher-tier catch, or target heavier fish with better bait instead of repeating the one that any rod can pick up.
