Fox money, thirty times the Speed
The Lava Gecko earns exactly what the Forest's Fox does, $180/s, and its cash reward is the same $18k. The difference is the Speed: the Fox Egg gives +720, while the Lava Gecko Egg gives +24k. That gap is the story of the early Volcano eggs.
It is the entry pet of the Volcano, the sixth zone, which needs 700K Speed and is guarded by Cerberus. Among Rares it ranks 3rd of 10, and 180 of 198 pets earn more overall.

Per second of growing, that is 400 Speed, the best rate in the Volcano. The next zone, Abyss Ocean, requires 2.5M Speed, so even this efficient egg would need more than a hundred hatches to get there alone. Five Gecko eggs per nest reset still add 120k.
Valid for two Rift banners
The Volcano feeds both the Riftborn and Riftbeasts banners, and the wiki lists the Lava Gecko in the Easy tier of both. That makes it one of the most flexible sacrifice pets in the game: whichever of those two banners is active, a spare Gecko can count toward the three pets the lobby Rift asks for.
