The Overlord fight, step by step
The Rift that gives out pets is part of a larger event from Update 3. Every 30 minutes a Rift opens somewhere on the map, and the wiki describes the encounter like this:
- Enter the Rift and fight the Overlord.
- The Overlord periodically faints; while it is down, hit its hand with the bat, which deals 100 damage per hit.
- Defeating it pays out Boss Tokens and Boss Mastery Points.
Tokens are spent in the Boss Shop on temporary Cash multipliers, Speed multipliers, Treadmill boosters and the Mutation Shard. The wiki's own tip is to save the shards from several fights and spend them on whichever boost fits your progression, instead of spending them right away.
Where Riftwing itself comes from
The pet comes from the separate, permanent Rift in the lobby: it requests 3 random pets and returns an exclusive Rift Egg, under three banners that rotate every 3 hours. The wiki does not say which banner includes Riftwing, and Update 6 notes that the Rift Trade-In Machine was replaced by Dr. Scramble's Laboratory, which leaves open whether the sacrifice still works as written.
